The Quick Answer
Best overall: January through February — perfect weather, past the holiday rush, peak season quality without Christmas pricing.
Best value: May — excellent weather, lightest crowds of the year, 15 to 25% below peak pricing.
Avoid if possible: Mid-March through mid-April (spring break) if you want a romantic, adults-only atmosphere in the Hotel Zone. Playa Mujeres properties are less affected.
Month-by-Month Breakdown
December
Peak season. The weather is as good as it gets — low humidity, virtually no rain, comfortable 28°C days. The downside: it is the most expensive time of year and the most crowded. Christmas week and New Year's require booking 14+ months in advance for the best properties. If your wedding falls in December and you want to honeymoon immediately, start planning the moment you set your wedding date.
January and February
Tina's top recommendation for couples who want the best combination of everything. Weather is consistently excellent — these are statistically the driest, sunniest months in Cancún. Crowds are lower than December. Pricing is at peak but without the holiday surcharge. Resort availability is better than December. For a honeymoon trip booked well in advance, January and February are the premium window.
March and April
Early March is still excellent. Mid-March through mid-April is spring break in the Hotel Zone. At Excellence or Beloved in Playa Mujeres you'll barely notice — at Hyatt Ziva the energy shifts. Adults-only properties handle it better than family resorts, but the broader Cancún atmosphere changes.
May
Tina's personal favorite month. Spring break is over, summer crowds haven't arrived. Weather still excellent. Pricing drops 15–25% below peak. Pool areas are quieter. Service at premium resorts noticeably more attentive — staff have more time per guest.
June and July
Hurricane season begins June 1 but the actual risk in June and July is historically low. What you notice more is the humidity — significantly higher than the dry season. Afternoon rain showers become more frequent, though they are typically brief. Prices are at their best of the year. For budget-conscious couples with flexible dates, June and July offer exceptional value for the same resort quality.
August through October
Peak hurricane risk. Most days are still beautiful — but the statistical risk is highest here. Travel insurance with hurricane coverage is mandatory if you book this window. These are also the lowest rates of the year.
November
Hurricane risk drops sharply after mid-October. November weather in Cancún is generally very good — drier and less humid than summer, warm but not oppressively hot. The pre-December shoulder period offers good value before holiday pricing kicks in. Late November is a genuinely excellent option for couples who want low crowds and good weather at prices below peak.
